| | "The plan of the place, with its squares, streets and building lots, was to be outlined by means of measuring by cord and ruler, beginning with the main square from which streets were to run to the gates and principal roads and leaving sufficient open space so that even if the town grew, it could always spread in a symmetrical manner" (John Reps) | Special Session on Codes "We will focus strongly on attempts to develop a New Urbanist Code, with morning and afternoon sessions devoted to looking at codes from three perspective - planners (administrators), architects, and politicians. We will begin Friday morning and have sessions on the history of use-based sprawl codes, reports from the Codes Project of CNU, the Smart Code, and other municipalities that have adopted complete New Urbanist Codes. John Reps will be a special guest on for a presentation on 13th Century French Bastides, which are very early coded towns. We also will have a report from a special transportation task force on a new proposal for AASHTO road standards Sunday morning we hope to come to some consensus about the issue of codes to be able to move forward with clarity as an organization on this vital subject. We also hope to have some fun as well." - Bill Dennis - before Council IV in Santa Fe
