COMMUNITY MEETING SET!! George Latimer to Moderate Community Meeting: Development Options at Lexington Parkway and University Avenue
On Monday, June 11, 2001 at 7:00 pm, University UNITED, and a number of it's member groups, will convene a community informational meeting, at Dunning Recreation Center, 1221 Marshall Avenue, St. Paul, to talk about development options for the corner site at University Avenue and Lexington Parkway. Home Depot has proposed a 118,000 square foot retail project. A number of community groups, including University UNITED and the Metropolitan Interfaith Council on Affordable Housing, have expressed an interest in exploring alternative options for a mixed-use urban village. University UNITED has worked with a non-profit developer, Central Community Housing Trust, in developing a proposal for the 8 acre site. In addition, Legacy Management and Devlopment Corporation, working with the Black Ministerial Alliance, has also made a proposal for a mixed-use urban village project.
Representatives from these three development groups will be invited to make a presentation of their proposals, and to answer questions from the community. The program will be moderated by George Latimer, former Mayor of St. Paul, currently Visiting Professor of Urban Studies at Macalaster College.
The purpose of this meeting is to inform the neighborhood of the array of development options and alternatives, as a first step in promoting a larger role for the community in the decision-making process.
Legacy Management, founded in 1970, is a privately held minority, family owned residential real estate Development and Management Company that prides itself on being an innovator of some of Minnesota's most unique and successful affordable housing developments.
